Local Attractions
A charming market town just 2 miles from the caravan park with cobbled streets and lots of historic buildings, with over 200 having a listed building status. The town is well served with many pubs, restaurants and cafes. A good mix of supermarkets, high street and independent retailers. Plenty of parking is available in the town.
A 13.2 mile traffic free trail running along the former Buxton to Ashbourne railway line. In Ashbourne the trail starts at the Ashbourne tunnel and parking is available in a Pay & Display car park near the tunnel which is run by the Peak National Park (DE6 1FD). Being traffic free, the trail is ideal for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. There is a café and bike hire available in the car park as well as public toilets.
Dovedale Stepping Stones are one of the most popular attractions in all of the Peak District National Park. Located in a limestone gorge the 16 stones crossing the River Dove were laid by the Victorians to enable tourists to cross the river. Dovedale Car Park (DE6 2AY) is operated by the National Trust. Dovedale is accessed via extremely narrow country lanes with passing places and the site can get extremely busy at popular times.
Carsington Water is the ninth largest reservoir in England. It was officially opened in 1992 by HRH Queen Elizabeth II. The reservoir has a visitor centre with a shopping area and a “Wonderful World of Water” exhibition. There are lots of activities available for a fantastic day out including walking along accessible routes, birdwatching, fishing and horse riding. There are 3 car parks serving the area with those further away from the visitor centre being slightly cheaper to park in.

There are lots of places managed by the National Trust in the area around Ashbourne.
- Ilam Park, Dovedale and the White Peak (DE6 2AZ) A beautiful area for walking and exploring. Dramatic scenery with steep sided ravines and woodlands.
- The Children’s Country House at Sudbury (DE6 5HT) Visit Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood. With Gardens to explore and a café and bookshop.
- Kedleston Hall (DE22 5JD) An 18th Century mansion with Adam Interiors, colonial history and vast parkland.
- Calke Abbey (DE73 7JF) with a 600 acre historic parkland, walled garden and Baroque style mansion. A unique chance to experience the decline of a country house estate.
Undoubtedly one of the most famous stately houses in England. Chatsworth House is home to the Devonshire family and has been passed down through 16 generations. The house has over 25 rooms to explore housing an art collection that spans over 4000 years. The 105 acre garden has waterworks, sculptures and a Victorian rock garden. The house is situated in a 1,000 acre park on the banks of the River Derwent and is home to many animals including red and fallow deer. With so much to do you can easily fill a full day visiting.

- Matlock & Matlock Bath is famed for its hydro and spa treatments Matlock is one of the most popular places to visit in Derbyshire. The spa town offers plenty of places to eat and explore along with parks and riverside walks. Just 1.5 miles south of the town you can find Matlock Bath, developed as one of the country’s first tourist attractions which remains popular to this day. Colourful buildings line the River Derwent where you can stroll and explore.
- The Heights of Abraham Attraction offers cable car rides taking you up to the summit of the hillside where you enjoy magnificent 360 degrees views across the Derbyshire Dales. Entrance includes so much more with caverns to explore, exhibitions and sculpture trials in the 60 acre hilltop estate.
Haddon Hall is an English country house with origins dating back to the 11th Century. The Hall houses a tapestry collection and a collection of early English furniture reputed to be the best of its kind in England. Guided walks and talks are available to help you enjoy the medieval park with its ancient ecology and there is a stunning Elizabethan walled garden to explore. Parking is available (DE45 1LA) and there is a restaurant on site providing food for all tastes.
Perhaps the most well-known theme park in England, Alton Towers provides a day of excitement with over 40 rides and attractions.
The theme park is only 8 miles from the caravan park (12 miles on main roads) and parking is available in large on site carparks (although they are a 15-25 minute walk to the park)
Alton Towers is extremely well signposted throughout the local area and road signage and traffic signals will direct you to the car parks.

- Royal Oak Hotel - Mayfield (DE6 2BN) serves home cooked food, real ales and fine wine with themed events.
- The Yeaveley Arms – Yeaveley (DE6 2DT) serving food including Sunday Roasts, live music events and themed events (Open Thursday to Sunday)
- The Shoulder of Mutton – Osmaston (DE6 1LW) Traditional village pub serving a varied menu of traditional pub food
- The Duncombe Arms – Ellastone (DE6 2GZ) Award winning dining experience mixing pub classics with more adventurous modern British Dishes.
- Crown Inn – Marston Montgomery (DE6 2FF) Locally sourced food that follows the seasons with food cooked to order with fresh ingredients.
- Coach & Horses – Fenny Bentley (DE6 1LB) Offers a wide range of home cooked food from locally sourced ingredients. (does not accept dogs)
- Dog & Partridge – Swinscoe (DE6 2HS) Food served all day with a wide ranging menu which includes local specialities (Dogs allowed)
